Dorchester is a neighborhood in Boston, Massachusetts, covering more than 6 square miles. It was originally its own town, founded in 1630 by Puritans who came from Dorchester, England. Today, Dorchester is the largest neighborhood in Boston.

The area was mostly rural and had around 12,000 people when it became part of Boston in 1870. The arrival of railroads and streetcars led to rapid growth, with the population reaching 150,000 by 1920. As of the 2010 Census, Dorchester had about 92,115 residents.

Dorchester is known for its diverse population, including African Americans, European Americans (with many Irish, German, Italian, and Polish backgrounds), Caribbean Americans, Latinos, and East and Southeast Asian Americans. The neighborhood also has a significant LGBT community.
